TORQUE MULTIPLIERS
(GEARED HEAD WRENCHES)
The X-4 Torque Multiplier is a Geared Head Wrench incomparable to any other tool. The multiplication is achieved through a planetary gear train at a ratio depending on the model. The precision gear train is totally enclosed.
An X-4 is a silent partner to all maintenance men, providing ample power to loosen the toughest threaded fasteners. As a torque multiplier it generates torque's from a few hundred pound-feet to thousands of pound-feet with precision and ease. Relatively small in size, the X-4 Torque Multipliers may be used with practically all accessory tooling yet provide ample wrench power in limited work areas. In many cases it eliminates dismantling of nearby equipment.
In addition to many applications where an X-4's use is mandatory, general use will not only upgrade the quality of work but also vastly improve the overall efficiency of the operators. Safety groups will find many reasons for specifying the use of X-4 Torque Multipliers and rather than interfere with production or efficiency, both factors will show improvement.
In use, standard drive sockets of appropriate size are placed on the male drive square. A suitable drive tool is inserted in the female input socket. This may be an ordinary ratchet drive, a torque measuring device or under controlled conditions, a power drive. This assembly is now placed on the part to be turned with the reaction bar restrained against some substantial part of the equipment being serviced. At this point, any force applied to the input drive is multiplied at the output end of the X-4. For higher ratios of multiplication, two or more X-4's may be directly intercoupled. Impact type driving tools should not be used.
Thousands of X-4 Torque multipliers are in use throughout the world as maintenance, production, inspection or service equipment wherever high torque applications are found.

MATHEMATICS OF THE X-4 TORQUE MULTIPLIER
In most wrench applications the force relationship may be expressed by the following formula:
F x D = T Where:
|
When the X-4 Torque Multiplier is used, its mechanical advantage applies a factor to the equation as follows:
It can thus be seen that the same applied force F results in multiple times the total turning force when the X-4 tool is used. *In actual operation this factor is reduced between 10 and 20% due to normal losses in the tool head. |
